Laparoscopy

What is Laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that allows us to look inside the abdomen and pelvis using a thin instrument called a laparoscope — a camera-equipped device inserted through a small incision near the navel.

This advanced technique helps us diagnose and treat various gynecological problems with minimal pain, fewer scars, and faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery.

At Shree Clinic, we use laparoscopy to provide women with precise, safe, and effective treatment options for a wide range of reproductive and pelvic conditions.

When is Laparoscopy Recommended?

Laparoscopy is used both for diagnosis (to identify the cause of a problem) and treatment (to correct it during the same procedure).

Common Reasons for Diagnostic Laparoscopy:

  • Unexplained pelvic pain
  • Infertility evaluation
  • Suspected endometriosis
  • Ovarian cysts or adhesions

Common Reasons for Operative Laparoscopy:

  • Removal of ovarian cysts, fibroids, or endometriotic tissue
  • Tubal surgery (for infertility or tubal blockage)
  • Hysterectomy (removal of uterus)
  • Treatment of ectopic pregnancy
  • Adhesiolysis (removal of scar tissue)

How is the Procedure Performed?

  • The procedure is performed under general anesthesia.
  • A small incision (about 1 cm) is made near the belly button to insert the laparoscope.
  • The abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide gas for better visibility.
  • Additional small incisions may be made for inserting surgical instruments if treatment is needed.
  • The surgeon visualizes the pelvic organs (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes) on a monitor and performs precise interventions.
  • The incisions are then closed with fine sutures, leaving almost no visible scars.

Most laparoscopic procedures are completed within 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the complexity.

Benefits of Laparoscopy

  • Minimally invasive – small incisions, less pain, minimal scarring
  • Quick recovery – shorter hospital stay and faster return to daily activities
  • Better accuracy – direct visualization of internal organs
  • Reduced risk – less bleeding and infection risk compared to open surgery
  • Improved fertility outcomes – in cases of endometriosis, fibroids, or tubal blockages

Recovery After Laparoscopy

At Shree Clinic, we ensure every woman receives comprehensive post-operative care.

After the procedure:

  • You may experience mild abdominal discomfort or shoulder pain (due to gas used during surgery)
  • Most patients are discharged the same or next day
  • Normal routine can resume within 3–7 days, depending on the procedure type
  • We provide personalized guidance for wound care, diet, and follow-up visits

Possible Risks

Though laparoscopy is very safe, minimal risks can include:

  • Mild infection or bleeding
  • Reaction to anesthesia
  • Rare injury to internal organs

Our team ensures utmost safety through advanced techniques and experienced hands.
